Legal Community Joins to Support Colleague

Members of the courthouse legal community gathered at the High Beck Tavern last month to raise over $20,000 for friend and colleague Jeffrey Basnett who just recently has been diagnosed with lung cancer. The outpouring of support was overwhelming. Not only was the event well attended by both the civil and defense bar, also present were members of the prosecutor’s office, bailiffs, courthouse staff and members of the common pleas, juvenile and municipal court bench. Over one hundred and fifty individuals attended the event.

Highlighting the evening was the presentation by Columbus Bar President Magistrate Mark Petrucci of a grant from the Columbus Bar Foundation Lawyer to Lawyer Fund. Special thanks goes to the McIans, an Irish rock band who provided entertainment; to Doug Stead, Dennis Hogan and Bill Walton of the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office who showcased their culinary prowess by providing wild game and smoked delicacies; and to the High Beck for providing the venue.

The evening was truly a moving event in that not only was it a tribute to Jeff, his professionalism and respect in the legal community, but also a fine example of members of the courthouse community’s compassion and care for others. If you were unable to attend but would like to make a donation, send it to the Columbus Bar Foundation Lawyer to Lawyer Fund, 175 S. Third Street, Columbus 43215.
