Merisa K. Bowers was recently appointed to serve as a Commissioner to the Community Relations Commission for the City of Columbus. She will serve a three-year term as a commissioner.

Bowers currently serves as the co-chair of the Columbus Bar Association’s LGBT Committee and the secretary of the Central Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and is a member of Women Lawyers of Franklin County, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association, the National LGBT Bar Association, the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Ohio Association for Justice, AmSpirit Business Connections, and the Gahanna Chamber of Commerce. She was named as Top 100 Trial Lawyers for 2013-2014 by The National Trial Lawyers. In 2013, Ms. Bowers co-founded Bi Local, an affinity organization of Equality Ohio, which advocates and raises visibility for the bisexual community in Central Ohio.

Ronald R. Petroff has announced that Erika Smitherman has been named Partner at Petroff Law Offices, LLC, focusing on family law matters in the areas of divorce, dissolution and child custody.

D. Allan Asbury, current Administrative Counsel, Office of the Administrative Director at the Supreme Court of Ohio, has accepted a position with the Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline as their senior counsel. His new duties will begin on September 29th.

The League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Columbus is planning an opening meeting in September around the theme of judges – what they do and why they are important. After the elections, there will be a committee working on developing a plan to better educate Columbus residents about the judicial system. Expect more League news on this page as dates are set for coming events.
